  • A typical astronaut helmet like those worn in the Apollo missions is made of highly strengthened polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is a high impact-resistant plastic that you can also find in bulletproof glass and exterior automotive parts.

A lot of inconveniences accompany the wearing of an astronaut helmet. For example, you can’t just take it off to scratch a simple itch on your nose. To remedy this, a velcro patch is stuck on the inside to serve as a scratcher.

It's not that hard to make an amazing astronaut helmet, grab a foam camping mat, some craft foam, and get started!

Ever since the first astronaut went into space, children everywhere have dreamed of joining them. Here's a great project that will be a surefire hit with those young adventurers!

This pattern was inspired when my 7 year old son came home and informed me that he needed to go to school dressed as an astronaut. Tomorrow. And so, in the wee hours of the night, the foam astronaut helmet was born! I was really impressed with how quick it came together and how great it looked when finished, so I tweaked the pattern, and now it is available for you.

If you are a bit crafty, this project should be relatively straightforward, with a construction time of around 2 hours not including painting.

I have updated the pattern file and it now includes an adult sized template as well.

Just let your little ones don this fine JR. Astronaut Helmet and engage the countdown sounds "Mission Control, All Systems Are Go 5... 4, 3, 2, 1, Blastoff!" Once your little junior achieves his/her imaginary escape velocity, they'll be truly able to explore the space around them. Make sure they close the spring-loaded retractable visor with the push-button. They can then use the mock boom microphone to relay messages back to mission control and even get an audible " All systems are go" message.

These astronaut helmets will complete your astronaut costume!

This is created by European creative agency DDB to get kids "excited about bicycle safety." I'm going to be honest, getting excited about any kind of safety is an uphill battle. Safety is inherently not exciting. Danger -- danger is where the thrills are at. My mom could buy me the coolest astronaut bike helmet and I'd still hide it in the garage before a bike ride. Hey you -- light my sweatshirt on fire and film me while I bomb this hill.

Astronaut Space Helmet 14in x 11 1/2in- Party City

The smell becomes coated on the astronauts helmet, suit, and gloves after they come back inside from the vacuum of space, and is so peculiar that no one can quite agree on what it really smells like. What is the cause of this unique smell then?
