The Ranger Tales segments vary in length, mainly depending on how many participants there are, with Dino Thunder, which only has one cast member interview (Kevin Duhaney), running just a few minutes - alas, looks like they weren’t able to bring Jason David Frank back for more material, past what he did for the initial Mighty Morphin Power Rangers set. It should be noted that there are some seasons not included at all in the Ranger Tales segments, presumably because no one from that respective cast were available for or agreed to do an interview. Suffice to say though, a ton of former Rangers did take part in this set, along with many important participants behind the scenes.
There are days when you feel old, and then there are days when you feel really old. Today is one of the latter for me, as I learned that today is the 20th Anniversary of the debut of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV show in the United States–a show I thought I was too old for when it first aired. So yeah. I feel old today. But on the bright side, MEGA Brands has now released a special set to commemorate my being over-the-hill: it’s the Mega Bloks Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Collector Set 05836, containing Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Mega Bloks figures of all six original Power Rangers!
Shout! Factory had already done an excellent job with their previous Power Rangers box sets, with the episodes looking better than ever (which is, in many senses, saying, “as good as it’s going to get” for the cheaply made, partially imported series, particularly the early years). The episodes are in their originally broadcast aspect ratio, so only the final two seasons are widescreen. Shout!’s other Rangers DVD sets have included many great extra features, including interviews with key players from the show’s history. All of those extra features are retained here, plus two discs of previously unseen material – one of which will be included on the upcoming Season 13-17 set, the other which will remain exclusive to the Legacy collection. It should be noted that Shout! do not have the home video rights to the most recent Power Rangers seasons, which are at Lionsgate, who have been releasing DVDs themselves. However, Shout! were able to make a special deal with Saban and Lionsgate so that all 20 seasons are included in the Legacy collection.
MEGA Brands has seemingly heard the outcry for superior MMPR Mega Bloks, and they have answered! Starting to hit select stores now is a special 20th Anniversary Mega Bloks Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Collector Set that includes a very cool tiered base with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers logo on it, as well as the whole team of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Mega Bloks figures: Red Ranger, Black Ranger, Blue Ranger, Yellow Ranger, Pink Ranger and even the ridiculously beloved Green Ranger! There’s no question with the release of this set that it’s instantly going to become the most-loved Power Rangers Mega Bloks sets ever.
