  • The Crib/Youth Mattress 55" x 32" x 5" (#39-55325) is made with STAPH-CHEK fluid resistant, anti-bacterial, anti fungal, stain and tear, self-deodorizing, non allergenic material. It's accompanied with multi-layered, high resiliency, medical grade, urethane foam for optimal comfort and support.

The Natural Support Collection--the Gold Bond line of juvenile and youth mattresses--are designed specifically to provide superb comfort and support for children and young adults. For use with conventional box springs or with bunk or platform beds, each mattress in the collection is made with your child's health in mind:

  • Youth can sleep on other slightly less common sizes of mattresses as well. If the child has a large room, you could get a double mattress, which measures 53 inches wide by 74 inches long. This size is perfect for sleepovers because your child and a friend can sleep comfortably together. Plus, some cribs convert into a headboard and footboard for a double mattress. Another youth mattress size is the twin XL, which is still 38 inches wide, but 79 inches long. These extra five inches of length make it much more comfortable for taller youth. This size is commonly found in college dormitories. Some youth furniture offers other non-standard mattress sizes, especially for futons or chairs that fold out into mattresses.

A "youth" size mattress measures 33 inches wide by 66 inches long. This is right in between the size of a crib mattress and a twin mattress. It is ideal for children who are less than 4 feet tall. Look carefully at measurements before purchasing a youth mattress. Many companies that sell beds use "youth" as an adjective to describe the style of bed or intended occupant when the bed actually uses a crib, twin or double mattress.

  • Youth Mattress Sizes. Your children can sleep on a variety of sizes of mattresses during their childhood. The best mattress for your child will depend on his sleeping habits, age and the size of his bedroom. In addition to a "youth" sized mattress that is difficult to find these days, you have several other sizes to choose from.

Geeks On Home: Youth Mattress Sizes

Those are some of the significant findings from Kids Today's exclusive 2013 Children's Furniture Survey. Per the data, 56% of all youth beds are twin-size, 18% are twin-over-twin bunks and 14% are full beds. Kids Today partnered with Newton, Mass.-based Mom Central Consulting in May 2013 to ask moms about infant and youth mattresses, as well as cribs and youth bedroom furniture. The online survey fielded to Mom Central's proprietary panel of moms and garnered 900 responses. The results presented within this report are for mattresses only. Kids Today's September issue presented results on cribs and the October issue presented results on youth furniture.
